The internet doesn't have to be a waste of time.

The North Face phenomenon:

EVERYBODY walking the street is wearing The North Face! What is up with that? It’s this cold time of year, but how did they take over the world? How come no company has come to be a serious competitor? It’s not like they are cheap.

I should mention I have quite a bit of TNF myself. I used to dislike them as they used to make these puffy coats which weren’t that good but were a sign of chic like the iphone, and people who like showing the brand of clothe they are wearing used to wear them. But that was then. They improved, and I’m not sure if they’re cheaper or have more sales, but EVERYBODY is wearing them. It is a bit scary. I recently went to Target of all places and most people I saw there were wearing them. Different items, but all with the famous TNF logo.

I can’t remember a different company who held such a place. Even Nike in their heyday had competitors. But TNF, not so much. Their competitors are not so good and way overpriced, as if someone would only buy them in order to say they are not wearing TNF, but a unique new brand name. But even that hasn’t worked for anybody.

So what’s the deal?

Is it that currently people are less worried of dressing exactly like everyone else than they used to?  Has the iPhone generation become one where being the same is a plus and personalization is passé? Is it another sign that fascism is just around the corner…

To explain, I added the products discussed link as I thought the picture fits the post.

Products Discussed

The North Face Women's Venture Jacket

Switch to wearing Patagonia. The company is dedicated to using only sustainable, renewable materials and runs its company in an innovative and earth friendly way. Its products are attractive and well made and if I'm not mistaken, made in the US.

Great company, but makes nothing in my size. 1X or 2X types should not appear in public. (This happens with many clothing makers.)
